Google Doodles

Ever wonder who draws those logo doodles on Google's front page? Well, I've been a little curious myself and decided to research it.

It's this guy!

Dennis Hwang started interning for Google in the summer of 2000 and wasn't even hired to do anything remotely related to Google's logo. Even though the company had already begun producing the doodles on a regular basis, I guess the founders decided to pass the torch over to him. His first doodle was for Bastille Day in July 2000.

He's currently Google's international webmaster, meaning that the doodles are only a small part of his job, but he says it's definitely his favorite.

Some of my faves:

For Piet Mondrian's birthday (March 7, 2002)

Michelangelo's Birthday (March 6, 2003)

Louis Braille's Birthday (January 4, 2006)

Rene Magritte's 110th Birthday (November 21, 2008)

"La Golconde" by Rene Magritte is located in my hometown at The Menil which has a wonderful collection of surrealist art.

Walter Gropius' 125th Birthday (May 18, 2008)

There's plenty more where that came from in the doodle archive
and
if you have suggestions for future doodles, you can contact Dennis here.
